Slade: I have no point to prove

BRIGHTON and Hove Albion manager Russell Slade does not believe he has a point to prove on his return to Huish Park.

The former Glovers’ boss will be in the away dugout for the first time since leaving the club by mutual consent in February.

After guiding Yeovil to the Coca-Cola League One play-offs in 2006-7 and avoiding relegation to League Two in 2007-8, Slade said he will hold his head high for the Seagulls’ visit.

He said: “Inevitably when the fixtures came out we were going to play each other twice and this is the first of two games and I am looking forward to taking my team there.

“I have got nothing to prove at all. Obviously every game is important and you would always want your team to perform well against a team you have managed before. That is only human nature.”

Brighton have never won at Huish Park and enter the game on the back of two defeats.

The Glovers had asked for Saturday’s fixture to be postponed, with Shaun MacDonald, Ryan Mason and Steven Caulker all on international duty.

However, the Football League twice rejected the request and Yeovil chief executive Martyn Starnes said it is time for the team to “roll up their sleeves”.

“There is disappointment because I would like to have thought that the Football League would have supported us to ensure as level a playing field you can get,” he said.

“We all realise that it is not a level playing field, but we do not want to be disadvantaged by international call-ups.

“It is what it is and we are all rolling our sleeves up and we will give it a good go on Saturday.

“We have still got key players missing and Steven Caulker, Ryan Mason and Shaun MacDonald have all done really good jobs for us, so naturally they are going to be missed.

“But the lads that come in are going to have a chance to grab the shirt and I am sure they will put in a good performance.”
