Darren left speechless after a joyous end to his career
Huish Park rose to its feet, as the 6,664 fans applauded Way's 89th minute entrance to his benefit match against Manchester United.
The former midfielder was forced to retire as a player earlier this year after failing to overcome injuries sustained in a two-vehicle road collision in December 2008.
Despite not being named among the substitutes, Way took to the pitch before exchanging passes with manager and best friend Terry Skiverton, who was brought on for his final first team showing two minutes earlier.
Way said: "I have been looking forward to it and words cannot describe how I feel, especially with the turnout and support. I could not have had a better way to end my football career.
"I got a touch of the ball, the gaffer played me in and I tried to play it with the outside of my left boot. As you can see I am nowhere near as mobile as I used to be, but the noise from the crowd was incredible.
"I have had my best memories at Yeovil Town Football Club and it means so much for me to share those memories here, end my career here, with those supporters and the whole community."
The youthful United, managed by ex-striker and reserve team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, took a first half lead through Brazilian Rodrigo Possebon.
However, the Glovers took a stranglehold of the game in the first five minutes after the break, scoring through Jean Paul Kalala, Sam Williams and trialist Adam Virgo.
Way said: "I do not know what the gaffer said at half time, but they came out firing on all cylinders.
"They took the goals well, the game to United and then United were wondering how to cope with it.
"But they stuck with it and they still had a few chances after. I take my hat off to Ole and everyone at Manchester United because they are a credit to the club.
"For them to come down and play for me in a benefit game, I cannot think of a better way again to end my career."
